"El adios" for clarinet and piano by Viviana Danon - World Premiere

Updated: Oct 28

In previous entries on this blog, I wrote about the pieces Zamba for clarinet and piano and Atardecer en Villa Elisa by Argentine composer Viviana Danon. Today I want to introduce you to another beautiful new work by her: "El adios" for clarinet and piano, which I recently had the pleasure of premiering in a video on my YouTube channel, and which you can watch right here below.

El adios, huella para clarinete y piano
Beggining of "El adios" para clarinete y piano.

Let's look at some of the composer's thoughts on her piece:

"This composition is a Huella, a traditional Argentine dance of southern origin that has been danced in almost all Argentine provinces since 1830, and in some of them was preserved until the early years of our century. Musically, it is characterized by a "headless" phrasing and a formal structure that adapts to the choreography.

The clarinet and piano intertwine contrapuntally, each following in the other's "footsteps".

It is worth noting that this composition is dedicated to a colleague and teacher (Sandra Antúnez) who was ahead of the farewell, but who left an indelible mark on her professional and personal work."
